The Animal Husbandry has made rapid progress after independence. Animal husbandry, controlled cultivation, management and production of domestic animals, including improvement of the qualities considered desirable by humans by means of breeding.  Animal Husbandry refers livestock raising and selective breeding and mixed farming. 

The study of Animal husbandry and livestock census emphasizes on the updated and recent advances in livestock and the change that occur when they are subjected to new invention in field of Animal Husbandry. In this First edition, test of the entire chapter has been updated and illustrations have been added and improved according to the new syllabus directed by 5th dean committee (I.C.A.R.) for the students of B.Sc. Agriculture, M.Sc. Animal Husbandry, and Dairy science and for the competitive exams.

Animal Husbandry involves the integrated application of the principles of animal Breeding system, milk secretion, Livestock statistics, milk production statistics , terminologies related Animal Husbandry , classification of breeds ( cow, buffalo, goat ,sheep, pigs and poultry) , Housing, organization and disease control in a manner . Therefore, an effort has been made to just on the basic aspects. 

A lot of tables are included in the text to give authentic information and to make the student understand the topic better. Most of the time, the students need not by heart the values but should learn to interpret the matter in the table. 

Students may find the figures given in the text interesting and are expected to associate the matter with the respective figures. 

 This book focuses not only on the basis of syllabus but also reflects the recent advances in Animal husbandry and livestock census. The chapters given here cover the syllabus new syllabus directed by 5th dean committee (I.C.A.R.) for the students of all agricultural universities.
